The Hop Drop name is a tribute to twentieth century brewers, based on the banks of the river Wear - they had a unique trait of 'dropping' their spent hops into the river Wear to be taken away by the tide.

Hop Drop was originally called Classic #9 as it was brewed with Darwin's fruity no.9 yeast strain.
